Ok so I may have never paid a bribe, but on more than one occasion whilst in West Africa I was solicited to pay a bribe. IPaidaBribe.com is a great idea for using technology to combat corruption by making it simple for anyone who is literate and has access to the internet to report bribery. I particularly like that it also gives people the opportunity to report honest officers.
It will be expanding into Senegal soon and I hope people will be able to use it in The Gambia at some point.
Nigeria has been at the forefront of using the internet to combat graft. Several websites give victims a platform on which to complain. One such, http://stopthebribes.net/, maps incidents of corruption. Another site, http://www.nigeriapolicewatch.com/, provided links to videos showing an armed and drunken policeman assaulting two young women that prompted an investigation by the inspector general of police.
